Aloha! Nice work on your hula-hula-land cookbook, Nancy!
I lived in Hawaii for 4+ years and visited all the major Islands - true paradise. I loved the Islanders foods, customs, and of course the most beautiful tropical weather & colorful array of flowers one could imagine.... right at my "green thumb" fingertips every single day.
So many memories brought to the forefront reading the compiled recipes you have here. I particularly enjoyed a luau. Our family had a luau for our friends & neighbors in the cul-de-sac we lived.... imu - kalua - pig in the ground, and music & entertainment included. What a memory :) We've put away the hula skirts, but still enjoy the music and some recipes I cook on occasion.
Nancy - you've given me an idea for my next party... pu-pu platter on the lanai with aikanes! done that many a time.......
Mahalo Nancy!!
from Piliki.........
OH OH OH - now I know the origin of my Hawaiian name (Phyllis) PILIKI - which means TROUBLE in Hawaiian.
won't tell my husband that to confirm what he has engraved on our matching wedding bands. Piliki - and Keli for Jerry.
