SALVATION ARMY ANNUAL
DOUGHNUT DAY RETURNS!
The Salvation Army is reintroducing
Donut Day JUNE 7, 2013
They will be featuring free donuts,
and collecting donations.
DONUT DAY was started by the Chicago Salvation Army
as a fund raiser in 1938.
It honors and commemorates a group of Salvation Army Officers who traveled to France in 1917, during WW1
And fried donuts in an effort to
cheer up American servicemen.
The women bakers were referred to the
as the "DONUT GIRLS"
They also worked in field hospitals
and attended funerals of soldiers
killed in battle.
Next time you make donuts please
remember all our VETERANS.

The Salvation Army is one of my Charities. There is one that says it helps the victims and the military but it has such a HUGE over head and most military and Veterans have stories to tell about it. Blessing to the Sally. They have always taken care of the Soldier, the veteran, and the families.
I loved the story about your Grandmother and her picture. You have put in some fantastic donut recipes and I think this is a great cookbook. Hugs to you Nancy.
