This recipe was given to me by a good friend when I was searching for a soft cake like donut recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons crisco shortening
  • - enough flour to form soft dough

How To Make sour dough donuts

  • Step 1
    Add baking soda to milk,whisk until foamy,add egg, sugar,salt,nutmeg, and crisco and mix throughly,then begin to add flour 1 cup at a time until your dough becomes soft and slightly moist.Empty dough onto floured surface and roll slightly in flour to make dough workable.Roll to 1/3 inches and cut out with doughnut cutter.Deep fry in hot oil until golden, flipping over to cook back side.sprinkle with sugar cinnamon while hot or cool to frost.
