Being the 4th of 11 siblings we all had to do our share to help around the house. I loved helping my mom in the kitchen. She was the best country cook and well known for it in our neighborhood. By the time I was 12 she would send me to a neighbor's house when asked how to make one of her dishes (since mom never measured anything that wasn't cake related). As I got older and a little more confident and daring, expanding into other ethnic dishes seemed doable.
