Fresh Peaches Add Sweetness to Summer Desserts

Drunken Grilled Peaches

There’s a truck that brings Georgia peaches to different farmers markets and stores around town. You know it’s summer when you finally see it driving around.

I’m really fond of their peaches. They are always so juicy and sweet, it’s hard not to take a big bite out of one the minute I open my bag. I recently bought a bag (or three) and can’t wait to get baking!

Who knew that one could make fresh peaches taste any better than they already do?! Lorna Dietz did! I knew her Drunken Grilled Peaches were going to be a good one as I smelled the marinate while slicing the peaches.

“Finger licking good,” jokes Lorna about these heavenly peaches. The vanilla and bourbon give the peaches a pop of flavor. A fab light, summery dessert.

Karen Rees’ Strawberry Peach Easy Pies are cute as a button and tasty too! “[This is] what I cook my family when the sweet tooth is calling and my pantry echos back,” says Karen. “Everyone loves these and they can be altered to hold your favorite fruit.”

This easy dessert is the perfect pick for the next time you’re wanting a pretty dish in a snap. You can get extra creative and try different fruit combos. But, I’m really a fan of the grilled peaches.

Jaclyn Bertonili combines fresh peaches with sliced strawberries in her Blushing Peach Pie. “If you like strawberries and peaches, you’ll love this,” shares Jacklyn.

The mix of fruits in this recipe is so fabulously scrumptious. The pie is perfectly sweet and flaky.

“I saw a similar recipe in the newspaper using apricots and decided to try something similar with peaches,” explains Marcia Paholski. “Everyone who tried it thought it was great!”

Marcia’s Peach and Almond Galette is a wonderful treat for brunch, dessert or if you have guests unexpectedly dropping by. The galette’s very impressive when served, but super easy to put together. It’s not overly sweet, and the almonds add a nice touch of crunch. Just delicious.

“I bought peaches and cherries and noticed they weren’t being eaten as quickly as normal,” is how Kim Novosel was inspired to create her Fresh Peach & Cherry Cobbler.

Once you try this, you will anxiously await peach and cherry season each year. And it will be worth the wait… because this cobbler is that good. Sweet, tart and oh so tasty!

We’re at the peak of peach season and my taste buds couldn’t be happier. This weekend, pick up some fresh peaches and get creative in your kitchen!
