My Mom did not share her kitchen which was always spotless therefore when I married in 1957, my live in uncles would say: "These girsl cannot even boil water." In our own kitchens, my sister and I mastered cooking and baking. We easily baked Pies, bread, made homemade pasta, deicious sauces and gnocchi, including pickling and jams. When we sent over some of our dishes to our bachelor uncles, they were impressed, and we always said; "Thanks Zio, but we still can't boil water." It was a loving expression we shared. Our daughter and son inherited cooking skills and make our family dishes.
