I learned to cook my great-grandmother's recipes as a young teen. In my 20's I only cooked from recipes...I wasn't all that adventurous or imaginative - mostly I was too afraid to mess anything up!
In my mid 30's, I moved to Australia where I had to LEARN to be imaginative because the products weren't the same as I was used to "back home" in the states.
Now, I enjoy cooking w/my Aussie husband, no longer afraid of messing stuff up. Our style of cooking could be called Southern Hemisphere Country Goulash with a dash of Cajun, to make you smile.
