Super Snacks for Football’s Biggest Day

Super snacks for football's biggest day

People have different reasons for attending a Super Bowl party. Some are there to watch the game, others only care about the commercials, while for some people food rules the day. And neither is wrong! Personally, I’m a mix of all three. These super snacks will satisfy everyone on football’s biggest day.

Christine Schnepp’s (Sarasota, FL) Pepperoni Bread Roll is quick to make and delicious.

“Looking for something to do today so I decided to poke around in the kitchen to see what I had on hand,” explains Christine. “Add some marinara dip on the side and enjoy!”

There’s no yeast in the dough and it’s made with pantry ingredients, so the pepperoni roll can be assembled quickly. After it bakes, the texture of the bread is similar to a firm biscuit.

Inside is full of ooey gooey cheese and pepperoni. Add as much or as little as you’d like; the more cheese the better in my book. I dipped a piece in marinara sauce and it’s fantastic.

I love nachos. Seriously, I could live on them. I also love tater tots. Pan Penisten (Hanover, IL) combined two of my favorites in her Tater Tot Nacho Supreme.

Pam dedicated her recipe to her loving husband who likes to try new flavors. And, boy did Pam deliver. There is a ton of flavor in every bite.

The seasoning in the ground beef pairs well with all the toppings. I think salsa con queso adds just enough heat and cheesy goodness. Who needs tortilla chips when you can use tater tots for nachos?!

Another super flavorful snack is Robin Dextradeur’s (Branford, CT) Southwest Chipotle Chicken Dip.

“This dip has a smoky flavor mixed with a little sweet corn crunch,” shares Robin. “It can be made ahead, refrigerated, and baked when needed.”

Having a few recipes that can be prepped ahead of time is key to my game day menu. Also, to me, the day isn’t complete without a gooey dip and this one fits the bill.

The chipotle hot sauce definitely puts a Southwest spin on this dip. I had a hard time not snacking on this in the Test Kitchen.

It was really good with tortilla chips, and I also dipped some buttery crackers into it too. Add this to your game day appetizers and you’ll have a group of happy guests.

“Creamy with a kick,” is how Glynda King (Homerville, GA) describes her Bacon Buffalo Cream Cheese Jalapenos.

This recipe combines everything tasty about game day – ground beef, Buffalo sauce, cheese, bacon, and more. These jalapeno poppers will not win a beauty contest, but once you taste them you’ll realize it’s what’s inside that counts.

Spice not your thing? Jeanne Ballough’s (Reynoldsville, PA) Pennsylvania Dutch Soft Pretzels will be a crowd-pleaser.

“These pretzels are great they taste just like the ones I had from a Dutch family in Chambersburg, PA,” thinks Jeanne. “They are easy to make and really good.”

Don’t let the pretzel-making process intimidate you. It’s easy and these turn out delicious.

The pretzels bake until slightly crisp on the outside while staying soft and chewy on the inside. Serve with a little German mustard, nacho cheese, or even marinara sauce.

Put out this spread for guests and you’ll be MVP of the day. Don’t think I’m forgetting about the mother of all football snacks – chicken wings. Next week’s Janet’s Notebook is going to be completely devoted to them. Happy Pinching!
