Now that summer is here, it's hard to find delicious, hearty meals that won't heat up the kitchen... or take you away from fun activities for too long. Try this lasagna for a filling meal that tastes just as good as oven made.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef or italian sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can 14.5 oz. diced tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper or red pepper flakes.
  • 2 1/2 cups bow tie pasta, uncooked
  • 1-1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese or small curd cottage cheese
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded or grated

How To Make bow tie lasagna (stove top)

  • Step 1
    Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic. Drain if necessary.
  • Step 2
    Add tomatoes, water, tomato paste, sugar, salt and pepper.
  • Step 3
    Stir in uncooked pasta and bring to a full boil; then reduce heat to a simmer.
  • Step 4
    Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Combine ricotta (or cottage cheese) and parmesan cheese. Drop by tablespoon onto pasta mixture. Sprinkle with parsley , cover and simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Top with additional parmesan or mozzarella, if desired.
