How to Make a Chocolate Hazelnut Mug Cake

Cake Ingredients

  • 1/3 c all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp + 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter (slightly cooled)
  • 1 Tbsp hazelnut spread

Topping

  • 1 Tbsp hazelnut spread

Directions

1. Mix the sugar, cocoa, and baking powder inside a 12 oz mug.


2. Add the wet ingredients and mix with a small whisk until just combined.


3. Add 1 Tbsp of hazelnut spread on top.


4. Place in the microwave. Cook for about 90 seconds. Time may vary depending on the strength of your microwave. (Carefully remove the mug, it’s hot!)


5. The cake will puff up while cooking. When removed from the microwave, it will settle down to about an inch from the rim.


6. Add the remaining hazelnut spread.


7. Gently spread on top.

How to Make a Sprinkle Birthday Cake Mug Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp + 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter (slightly cooled)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp sprinkles

Topping

  • 1 Tbsp vanilla frosting
  • 1 pinch sprinkles

Directions

1. Mix the flour, sugar, and baking powder inside a 12 oz mug.


2. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix with a small whisk or fork until just combined.


3. Add 1 tsp of sprinkles and give it a quick swirl (don’t over stir or it will discolor the batter).


4. Place in the microwave. Cook for about 90 seconds. Time may vary depending on the strength of your microwave. (Carefully remove the mug, it’s hot!)


5. The cake will puff up while cooking. When removed from the microwave, it will settle down to about an inch from the rim.


6. Serve hot or cool. For decoration, top with 1 Tbsp of store-bought vanilla frosting and a pinch of sprinkles.

How to Make a Cinnamon Swirl Snickerdoodle Mug Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp sugar + 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 c milk
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter (slightly cooled)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar

  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon

Topping

  • 1 Tbsp cream cheese frosting

Directions

1. In a small bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and baking powder. In a separate bowl, mix the additional cinnamon and sugar. Set aside.


2. Add wet ingredients to the first bowl. Mix with a small whisk until just combined.


3. Pour half the batter into a 12 oz mug.


4. Add 1 tsp of cinnamon sugar on top of the batter.


5. Pour the other half of the batter into the mug. Top with the remaining cinnamon sugar.


6. Take a butter knife and give it a quick swirl.


7. Place in the microwave. Cook for about 90 seconds. Time may vary depending on the strength of your microwave. (Carefully remove the mug, it’s hot!)


8. The cake will puff up while cooking. When removed from the microwave it will settle down to about an inch from the rim.


9. Top with 1 Tbsp of store-bought cream cheese frosting. If you top with frosting while it’s hot, it will melt like the topping on a cinnamon roll.

Tips for Making a Mug Cake

  • Melt the butter first so it can slightly cool while measuring the rest of the ingredients.
  • Make sure to add the wet ingredients in order of the directions.
