Sweet, sour with a tad of spiciness, this tasty condiment is a must to pair with your favorite Indian finger food.

Ingredients For tamarind sauce

  • 1 c
    water
  • 2 Tbsp
    tamarind paste
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp
    garam masala
  • 1/8 tsp
    cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • 1/8 tsp
    ground himalayan sea salt

How To Make tamarind sauce

  • 1
    In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add water and bring it to a boil.

    To this, add tamarind paste and stir until nicely blended. Add brown sugar, cumin, ginger, garam masala, cayenne pepper and sea salt; mix well. Bring to a simmer.

    Reduce to medium-low and reduce gently until consistency turns slightly syrupy, about 15 minutes or so.

    Remove from the heat and let it cool off. Yields ¾ cup.
