If you want to make your own Chow Chow here is one yummy sounding version. I wanted to find a recipe that had the closest ingredients to the Mild Chow Chow I had bought in WVA. Just in case someone wanted to make it fresh. I have two recipes that I will post in directions that I use Chow Chow with. Ingredients
- 1 gallon chopped cabbage
- 12 medium chopped onions
- 6 medium sweet green peppers
- 6 medium sweet red peppers
- - salt to cover veggies
- BRINE
- 1 gallon vinegar
- 3 pounds sugar
- 1/2 cup dry mustard
- 6 tablespoons mustard seed
- 3 tablespoons celery seed
- 1 tablespoon cloves (in bag)
How To Make sweet chow chow

Step 1Put layer of vegetables in pan; sprinkle with salt, continue until all vegetables are used; cover last layer with salt; let stand overnight; then drain.

Step 2Heat to boiling: Add brine to pot and all vegetables and cook slowly until tender, about 1/2 hr. Pack hot chow chow relish into hot jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace. Remove air bubbles. Adjust the lids and process 10 minutes in a boiling-water canner.
