This is my recipe for a smooth, delicious and not too heavily spiced apple butter. If you like more spice flavor, you may double the ground cloves, allspice and/or nutmeg.

methodSlow Cooker Crock Pot
Ingredients For slow cooker apple butter
apples, peeled, cored & cut into chunks (approx.)
white granulated sugar
brown sugar, lightly packed
apple cider vinegar (i use raw, unfiltered organic)
How To Make slow cooker apple butter
Process apple chunks, in batches, in food processor until finely chopped, emptying each batch into bowl of slow cooker.
Set slow cooker on "high," then add all remaining ingredients; stir until well combined.
Place lid on slow cooker; cook on high for 6 hours, stirring every hour or so. (May cook on low overnight, if desired.)
Apple butter should be brown and thick. For perfectly smooth apple butter, use immersion blender when it's finished cooking..
To can, immediately ladle into hot, sterilized jars; place sterilized lids on jars and screw on rings; process in boiling water bath 10 mins.
To freeze, ladle mixture into a large bowl, cover and refrigerate until mixture is cold (I let it chill overnight,) then spoon into small freezer containers or freezer bags.
