Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 c
    long grain rice, uncooked
  • 1 medium
    onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 2 1/2 c
    water
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 - 2 tsp
    chili powder (according to ones own taste)
  • 1/8 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 c
    green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can(s)
    tomato sauce (8 ounces)
  • 1 can(s)
    tomatoes(15 ounce)
  • IF YOU PREFER YOUR'S WITH MEAT, JUST PRE-BROWN 1 LB. GROUND BEEF AND ADD IT IN STEP 2

How to Make Mom's Best Spanish Rice

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oil in 10 inch skillet over medium heat.
    Cook rice and onion in oil about 5 minutes, stirring often, until rice is golden brown and onion is tender.
  2. Stir in all remaining ingredients.
    Heat to boiling; reduce heat to low.
    Cover and simmer about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until rice is tender.
