granny ruth's fruit drops
I just could not keep it back any longer. I was doing some research on one of my moms cookbooks, and found this recipe. Mom made this for my 1st birthday and made it for my birthday until my 20th birthday. Her cookbook went back to 1910, this was really a good find.

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cans brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 - eggs
- 1/2 cup soured milk, such as buttermilk
- 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups broken pecans pieces
- 2 cups candied cherries halved
- 2 cups cut up dates

Step 1Heat oven to 400 degrees.

Step 2Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs well. stir in soured milk.

Step 3Measure flour and sift well.

Step 4Blend dry ingredients stir in. Stir pecans, cherries and dates. Chill at least 1 hour.

Step 5Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.

Step 6Place a pecan half on each cookie, if desired.

Step 7Bake 8 to 10 minutes until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly.

Step 8Makes about 8 dozen cookies.
