What could be better than a sandwich made out of rye bread? It was always such a treat to have fresh rye bread out of the oven when I was a kid.

- 2 cups rye flour
- 2 cups white flour
- 3 cups lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 packages dry yeast, not rapid rise
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water for yeast
- 1 1/2 tablespoons caraway seeds (optional)
How To Make german rye bread

Step 1Mix 1/2 cup lukewarm water, sugar, salt and yeast together and let sit overnight.

Step 2In the morning add the flour to the yeast. Mix well and let rise once. Knead down and let it rise again. Shape into loaves and place into greased pans or shape into rounds. Don't let the dough rise too long, about 45 minutes.

Step 3Bake at 400 for 45 to 60 minutes.
