Vikki, the Kentucky Butter Cake is a winner, for sure. This one would be good for a coffee get together, with or without fresh fruit. It stands on its own very well.

Thanks, Rose. It won't disappoint, and your hubby might even like it. LOL.

I'm thinking that the next cake I try will be this Kentucky Butter Cake. It sounds easy and delicious and I love everyone's picture of it.

Bobbe I made the Granny Cake for my Dad a few weeks ago. the photo didn't turn out well but the cake certainly did! saw dear ole Dad yesterday with 'Iron Skillet Pinapple Upside Downcake' in hand. he told me the Granny Cake never left his fridge, he ate the whole thing! as far as the upside down cake (which I did not get to taste), my Pop said it was just like the ones that mom and my grandmother used to bake for him. that's a compliment coming from a man who's kinda fussy. ok story told, still trying to decide what to make next. Kentucky Butter Cake is calling me tho!

Oh, and yes, probably coffee. I have a Keurig brewer (love it, love it, love it) and my favorite K-cup coffee flavor is Kahlua, with a bit of half-n-half added to round it out.

Vikki, make the Granny Cake first (too simple for words and so good), since it can be thrown together literally in about 10 minutes. Plus, if you aren't sure about it, you can cut the recipe in half really simply. Then make this one. A few more ingredients, but still easy. Both are "scratch" cakes, so when every one ooohs and aaaahs over the deliciousness, you can preen a bit and tell them "... and they're from scratch, too." LOL.
