Wendy, I want to reach right in and grab one of your bars as they look amazing with the dried cherries showing like that! As I told everyone else who posted a photo almost a year ago now, I am so lame for not noticing them! Thanks for taking the time to post your photo and I hope you enjoy eating and making these bars as much as I do!

It worked! We're now on our third batch! When we run out, he's out there working on another one! He's now tweaking the recipe, too...adding some spices and other ingredients. They just get better and better. Doug's an "intuitive" cook.

Your bars do look so very lucious and tasty! I think I am going to go make a batch in fact! The comments here taught me a lot about adding a litle heat to some sweet treats too. Never did that before...thanks for posting this picture Wendy! :-) And thanks to all you ladies here who taught me some things I did not know. :-)

I showed Doug your photo this morning, Wendy, to sorta "inspire" him to be in the baking mood when he comes home this afternoon. hehehe! His comment was, "Oooo! Those DO look good!" Up till then he'd been kinda wrinkling his nose and saying, "Healthy?"

He really loves to bake, so I'd say there's a good chance he'll come through for me. If not today, tomorrow, for sure!

Jan I didn't put cayenne in these but I do put in a LOT of my candy and cookie/bar recipes. Seriously, it does something to the taste buds and you really taste everything better. It's not hot at all. Try it with a next batch of cookies or candies...1/8 to 1/4 tsp.

Good Grief, Wendy! This photo makes me want to lick the computer screen! You girls are KILLING me! I'm just too sick to bake. I had to go BACK to the doc this afternoon! Maybe I can talk Doug into baking me some tomorrow--right after he takes my mom to get her hair and nails done and picks up her prescription! LOL! Poor sweet long-suffering man!!

NOW, let's talk about pepper--seriously--cayenne in these bars? Really? You're not just pulling my leg are you? I have always put black pepper on cantaloupe--my Arkie mama taught me that. And I KNOW a pinch of cayenne can really "kick up" the flavor of soup or stew or whatever without really making it "hot," but COOKIES? How did I get to be a 65-year-old relatively good cook without knowing this? All y'all Suth'n gals been keepin' secrets?

You won't notice the heat using maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of tsp in cookies, candy...etc...just makes everything taste so much better ...to me anyway.
