I think the first thing I ever made by myself was jello and whipped cream mixed together as a treat for my first grade classmates. Since then I felt challenged to try new things and prove I could do them. My grandmother & mother are fabulous cooks. As I got older I began to appreciate the role their wonderful cooking had on my memories as a child. My paternal grandmother was afflicted with Alzheimer's. She took to the grave her recipe for empanadas that were so wonderful and but will never be recreated. I vow not to let this happen. Every chance I get I save my recipes for my children.
