This is an old Amish recipe that I have changed a bit over the years. It is amazing! Great served with seedless rye or pumpernickel bread. Hope you enjoy.

  • 2 lb
    fresh kielbasa
  • 2 can(s)
    the large ones sour kraut
  • 1 qt
    half and half
  • 1 pt
    heavy cream
  • 1 stick
    real butter
  • 1 tsp

How to Make Sour Kraut Soup


  1. Add fresh kielbasa and and about a 1/2 cup of water to heavy soup pot or dutch oven. Cover and simmer till mostly cooked. Remove lid and brown meat.
  2. Remove meat from pot. Cut in bite size pieces. Add the juice from the cans of sour kraut. bring to a simmer to get the bits from the bottom of pan.
  3. Add the sour kraut, cut kielbasa, half and half, cream, butter, paprika, salt and pepper.
  4. simmer on low till slightly thickened.
