This is an old Amish recipe that I have changed a bit over the years. It is amazing! Great served with seedless rye or pumpernickel bread. Hope you enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds fresh kielbasa
  • 2 cans the large ones sour kraut
  • 1 quart half and half
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 1 stick real butter
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE.

How To Make sour kraut soup

  • Step 1
    Add fresh kielbasa and and about a 1/2 cup of water to heavy soup pot or dutch oven. Cover and simmer till mostly cooked. Remove lid and brown meat.
  • Step 2
    Remove meat from pot. Cut in bite size pieces. Add the juice from the cans of sour kraut. bring to a simmer to get the bits from the bottom of pan.
  • Step 3
    Add the sour kraut, cut kielbasa, half and half, cream, butter, paprika, salt and pepper.
  • Step 4
    simmer on low till slightly thickened.
