This soup is yum yummy! It is not real heavy, but of course I put fried onions and grated cheese on top to add those extra calories. You can add some Ham to this soup, I have done that before and it turned out real good. So if you have some leftover ham from the holidays this might be something you can put it in.

Ingredients

  • 1 large
    onion, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 10 c
    water
  • 6 c
    cabbage, chopped
  • 4 c
    potatoes, peeled & diced
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
    chicken bouillon granules
  • 1/2 tsp
    coarsely ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic, minced
  • 4 c
    ham, fully cooked, cubed (optional)

How to Make Cabbage Potato Soup

Step-by-Step

  1. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, saute onion in butter until tender.
  2. Add the water, cabbage, potatoes, bouillon, pepper and garlic.
  3. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  4. Stir in ham; heat through. (optional)
  5. Serve with cornbread and enjoy!
