Ingredients

  • 2 c
    dried navy beans rinsed well
  • 12 c
    water
  • 1
    ham bone.. . if you dont have a ham bone you can use 6 slices of raw bacon cut up.. actually is easier with bacon.
  • 2 1/2 c
    cooked mashed potato
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1
    chopped onion
  • 2 clove
    finely chopped garlic cloves
  • 1
    small carrot. chopped small

How to Make Senate Bean Soup

Step-by-Step

  1. heat beans and water to boiling in dutch oven ...
    boil 2 minutes uncoverd
    remove from heat and let stand 1 hour
  2. add ham bone (bacon) heat to boiling reduce heat add carrots and cover .. simmer about 2 hours or until beans are tender.
  3. stir in remaining ingredients cover and simmer 1 hour remove bone serve
