Comforting Lentil Soup

We love lentils at our house and eat them regularly. They are nutritious and this dish is great comfort food any time of year. I usually add Italian seasoning, however, today for lunch I decided to mix it up and I created a new and delicious Lentil soup that my husband and I loved. The combination of the ingredients I used meshed perfectly together and really upped the flavors. I will be making this many times over.

  • 1 pkg
    16 oz. lentils, dry
  • 6 c
    water or beef or vegetable broth
  • 1/3 c
    chopped onion
  • 1/3 c
    chopped carrots
  • 1/3 c
    chopped celery
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt or to taste
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper or to taste
  • 3 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1/3 c
  • 3
    thin strips of bacon roughly chopped (optional)

How to Make Comforting Lentil Soup


  1. Prepare ingredients.
  2. Put the liquid in a medium or large pan. Add all the ingredients. Bring to a boil and turn the temperature to medium and cook for 1 hour adding more liquid as needed. Remove pan from heat and serve.
