sweet and salty snacks - regular or gluten-free

I'm always on the lookout for gluten-free dishes for my son. I ran across a similar recipe to this one, online, and I was easily able to make it gluten-free by substituting pretzel crisps for the pretzel squares. And, because the crisps are not as salty as the pretzels, I added a pinch of sea salt.

How To Make sweet and salty snacks - regular or gluten-free

  • Gluten-free, salty & sweet snacks, made with gluten-free pretzel crisps, unwrapped Rolos, a pinch of salt and m&m's.
    Preheat oven to 200°F.

    Line large cookie sheet with parchment paper. This step isn't really necessary but it can save you from cleaning up later if you drop something.

    Place unbroken crisps (in whatever quantity you prefer) on the parchment paper.

    Place one unwrapped Rolo in the center of each crisp.

    Bake at 200°F for about 90 seconds to 2 minutes, just until slightly glistening. The goal is for the tops to be barely soft.

    Remove pan from oven and place on cooling rack (if available,) to reduce further melting.

    If desired, sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt granules.

    Place one m&m in the center of each Rolo. Handle carefully, it will be hot.

    Allow to cool to prevent burns from hot caramel and chocolate before eating.

    Store leftovers in covered, air-tight container.

    NOTES: If your eaters are not gluten-sensitive, you can replace the pretzel crisps with actual pretzel squares. Also, the larger the candy placed on top, the more likely the Rolo will sag due to the weight.
