Ingredients For puffed wheat squares

  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter, and more to grease the dish
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 c
    corn syrup or golden syrup
  • 1/2 c
    cocoa powder, or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground himalayan sea salt
  • 1 tsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 8 c
    puffed wheat cereal

How To Make puffed wheat squares

    Generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

    In a large pot over medium heat, add butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, cocoa powder and salt. Stir until everything is well combined. When it starts simmering, let it bubble for 2 minutes.

    Remove from the heat and add vanilla; stir well. Add the cereal and stir until evenly coated.

    Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Press down evenly using a spatula or place parchment paper on top; remove the paper and discard it.

    Let it sit at room temperature until completely cool, about 1 ½ to 2 hours. Cut into squares and serve.
