When I was growing up, my grandparents grew okra. We had this quite often growing up. When corn was in season, we would add some of that too!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh okra
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 3 cups fresh tomato, chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper

How To Make southern stewed okra

  • Step 1
    Rinse the okra; drain well, and pat dry. Remove the tips and stem ends. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    Saute onion, green pepper, and garlic in the butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat until tender. Add the okra, tomato, and remaining ingredients.
  • Step 3
    Cover and cook 20 minutes or until the okra is tender, stirring occasionally.
