mac & cheese with kahlua sauce

This is very creamy mac & cheese recipe and made for a very nice side for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup kahlua and cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups cooked pasta
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper to taste or a little cayenne pepper
  • 8 to 10 - crumbled buttery crackers- i used ritz

How To Make mac & cheese with kahlua sauce

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350^. Spray a 1 3/4 quart casserole dish.Set aside. --- In a medium sauce pan heat the butter and oil add the onions and sugar and stir to cook the onion until the sugar melts and the onions begin to caramelize a little.Add salt and pepper to taste or a little Cayenne pepper. Stir in the flour and then quickly stir in the kahlua and cream, stir in the milk, stir as you make the sauce smooth.
  • Step 2
    Stir in the cooked pasta and the shredded cheese. Stir until cheese melts. Spoon mixture into casserole and place crumbled cracker crumbs on top. Bake for 30 minutes- until it is heated through and bubbly.
