southern grits
This is an old recipe that I found when cleaning out my mother's recipes after she passed away. From what I can tell, it was usually served as a side at dinner.....often with pork chops, ham, or steak.

Ingredients
- 8 cups water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups quick-cooking grits, uncooked
- 1 cup butter
- 6 ounces roll of process cheese with garlic
- 1/4 cup dry sherry
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
How To Make southern grits

Step 1Combine water and salt in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Stir in the grits; cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat.

Step 2Add the butter and the next 5 ingredients, stirring until the butter and cheese melt. Stir in the eggs.

Step 3Spoon the mixture into a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish; sprinkle with additional ground red pepper to taste if desired. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 mnutes or until set.
