gramp's chili sauce

A childhood staple for me growing up, my grandfathers 'Chili' sauce has a great sweet flavor that goes very well with meats, and wild game. I'm not sure why it was called that given there are no chilies involved, but it's great regardless! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 30 medium tomatoes
  • 6 large peaches
  • 6 - onions
  • 6 - apples
  • 2 - green pepper
  • 1 - sweet red pepper
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons whole pickling spice in cheescloth
  • 1 quart white vinegar

How To Make gramp's chili sauce

  • Step 1
    Peel and core tomatoes. Let stand overnight and drain well
  • Step 2
    Dice Tomatoes, onions, Apples, Peaches, Green and Red peppers and place in a large pot
  • Step 3
    Add all other ingredients, bring to a boil and simmer for 2 hours.
  • Step 4
    If the mixture seems thin, some tomato paste can be added as necessary. This shouldn't be required if you drained the tomatoes well!
  • Step 5
    Place in sterilized pint jars and seal. Makes 6-9 pints
