elderberry medicinal syrup
This is my first time making this and the ginger and cloves along with the cinnamon make it taste really good. I have read that this is for cold-flu-sinus-aches and pains-etc. I for one will be using this to see.It is like sambucol sold in the drug stores they say for a whole lot cheaper and you control what goes into your medicine as well.Hope you will try this.

Ingredients
- 1 cup freeze dried elderberries/4 oz
- 1/2 cup peeled fresh ginger root finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 4 cloves whole
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup honey
How To Make elderberry medicinal syrup
-
Step 1Berries could be fresh if you have them or dried etc.
-
Step 2Put everything except the honey into a medium pot and bring to a boil the turn down and simmer 30 minutes
-
Step 3You will see the liquid gets reduced by almost half.Pour into large sieve and use a fork or potato masher or whatever you have to mash juice from berries.Throw away pulp.
-
Step 4By now the juice is lukewarm so stir in the cup of honey. Makes about 3 cups or 3/4th of a quart jar. Says it will keep a week in refrigerator or to pour into ice cube tray and freeze into cubes for freezer bag storage for 6 months time.I will cube freeze mine and put cubes into smaller baggies and then into a gallon freezer zip-lock storage bag.As you take one tbsp at a time for adults or one tsp for kids(not babies)due to the honey.
