stuffed sourdough sub

I love making these because they are so versatile. My daughter asked me to do all different kinds of these one year for her b-day. This is just one example: I have made pizza ones stuffed w/ sauce, mozzerella, parm & sausage; roast beef w/ sauteed mushrooms & swiss & carmelized onions, etc. This one tastes like a sub. The only problem is they are difficult to slice, so sometimes I just get individual large crusty rolls & hollow those out to stuff instead.

Ingredients

  • 1 - round sourdough bread
  • 1/2 pound sliced turkey (deli style)
  • 1/2 pound sliced smoked ham (deli style)
  • 1/2 - cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 - head, lettuce, shredded
  • 1-2 - tomatoes or roasted red peppers, drained & sliced
  • - italian dressing, parmesan, spices
  • - optional: carmelized onions, sauteed shrooms
  • 1/2 pound muenster cheese (or any kind you like). sliced

How To Make stuffed sourdough sub

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut top off sourdough bread and set aside. Hollow out inside, leaving enough room on the bottom to hold the sandwich together.
  • Step 2
Brush inside of bread, including up the sides, with Italian dressing.
  • Step 3
Lay ham on bottom, then Muenster (or any kind of cheese)slices, then turkey. Add some of the spices & parmesan. (I use Italian spices and salt & pepper). (If you are using sauteed mushrooms, carmelized or fried onions, or the roasted red peppers, add them now, too. Place top back on bread & wrap entire sandwich in foil.
  • Step 4
Bake at 350 degrees for 15/20 minutes. When you remove from oven, top w/ lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, etc. Slice as best as you can. :) & ENJOY! All of my friends love this.
