I loved pork hocks as a kid and my mom made the best. My dad liked them with sauerkraut, as I did. There aren't too many things I don't like.

Then I thought, I love bean soup and pork hocks so why not put the two together it turned out better than I could ever have thought. Just sooo good. This is a winner and it satisfied a childhood memory.

There was a little left so I froze it. It froze beautifully but I had to thaw a few days later. Loved it.

Ingredients

  • SOUP INGREDIENTS

  • 3
    ham hocks
  • 1 lb
    pinto beans, dried
  • 4 c
    water
  • 1 medium
    onion chopped
  • 2 stick
    celery ribs chopped
  • 2 medium
    carrots, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    meat tenderizer, plain
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • 1 tsp
    cumin

How to Make DONNA'S BEAN SOUP IN A SLOW-COOKER WITH HAM

Step-by-Step

  1. Rinse beans
  2. add seasonings
  3. add pork hocks
  4. add carrots, onions, celery,
  5. add water 4 cups or as needed to cover beans
  6. cook on high 2 hours
  7. cook on low 4 hours or until done
