How To Make pork essentials: beautiful baked bacon

  • 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • 2
For this recipe, you will need a rimmed baking sheet fitted with a rack, parchment paper, or aluminum foil,
  • 3
Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • 4
Place a rack in the middle position, and preheat the oven to 350f (175c).
  • 5
Chef’s Note: Most recipes of this type call for a temperature of 400f (205c). But my reasoning to take it down is twofold: 1. It takes a bit longer, so you have more control over the process. 2. You will not have a kitchen full of smoke.
  • 6
Place a piece of parchment paper (or aluminum foil) in a rimmed baking sheet, add a rack and lay the bacon on top. Then use a small spray bottle to spray the bacon with water. FYI: Add other things like maple syrup, black pepper, etc., if you want.
  • 7
Chef’s Note: The purpose of the water is to help the bacon render its fat. And will help in reducing any splatter.
  • 8
Place into the preheated oven and bake until bright red, and crispy, but stop before it turns brown.
  • 9
Chef’s Note: The time will depend on the accuracy of your oven, and the thickness of your bacon. Thin bacon will be about 18 – 20 minutes, and thick bacon 25 – 30 minutes. But, these times are an approximation. Bottom Line: Keep an eye on the bacon… two eyes, if possible.
