How To Make monte cristo sandwiches
-
Step 1Spread mustard over 1 side of each slice of bread, Divide meats and cheese equally on 4 slices of bread. Top each with remaining bread slices, pressing gently together. Combine eggs, milk, spices, sugar and vanilla in a shallow dish or pie tin. Spray skillet with non stick oil and add 1 Tablespoon butter heating to medium Carefully dip both sides of sandwich briefly in egg mixture, letting excess drip back into dish ( I know this seems messy - but the results are fantastic), fry one sandwich at a time turning to brown on top and bottom. Transfer to a greased or foil lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining sandwich, adding butter to skillet as needed. Bake sandwiches 5 to 7 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted at 450^ oven. Cut each sandwich in half diagonally; sprinkle generously with powdered sugar. Serve immediately with preserves, or flavored yogurt. --- Note: This is especially good using the ingredients of a BLTC and dipping and frying in this same batter.
