My dad taught me how to make a subtle yet delicious tomato cream sauce for pasta. You can use any pasta, I like it with ziti.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1
    onion, diced
  • 1 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 1
    14.5 oz can italian-style diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 Tbsp
    dried basil
  • 3/4 tsp
    sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp
    each, salt and pepper
  • 1/2 c
    light cream
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter
  • 12 oz
    ziti pasta or other pasta

How to Make Tangy tomato cream sauce w/ ziti

Step-by-Step

  1. Cook pasta as directed and drain. return to pot. In saucepan, saute onion and garlic in oil over medium heat.
  2. Add tomatoes, basil, sugar, oregano, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Boil gently for 15 mins.. Remove from heat. Stir in light cream and butter.
  3. Pour sauce over pasta, toss to coat evenly.
