When I say labor of love, I really mean it. Prepare this on a night when all you want to do is prepare something they love. I got off work and decided my boys would appreciate this. It takes awhile, but the end product is so satisfying you won't regret it. Freezes well also.

Ingredients

  • 3 lb
    80/20 ground beef
  • 1 1/4 lb
    fresh hot italian sausage
  • 1 large
    green bell pepper,diced
  • 2 large
    yellow onions
  • 2 Tbsp
    minced garlic
  • 2 jar(s)
    spaghetti sauce,i used prego italian sausage and garlic and frsh mushrooms
  • 1 can(s)
    crushed tomatoes
  • 1 lb
    whole wheat spaghetti
  • 2 Tbsp
    black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp
    tony charchere more spice
  • 1 Tbsp
    smoked paprika
  • 2 Tbsp
    green vegetable seasoning mix, extra spicy
  • ·
    basil, dried,and oregano

How to Make Labor of love Spaghetti sauce, Iris

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut up onions, bell peppers and garlic. Saute these ingredients in a pan until cooked down by half and onion5ate golden in color set aside
  2. Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage. After browning I remove to a colander to drain off excess fat. Remove casings from sausage and cut, or dice to you desired preference.
  3. Add all seasonings to the ground beef/Italian sausage mixture after oil has been drained.
  4. Add spaghetti sauce to a large pot. Add the meat mixture and the veggies mixture. To this also add basil and oregano if dried, if using fresh herbs cut amount in half and add near end of cooking time.
  5. Simmer on low 1 and a half hours. Serve over hot pasta of your choice with plenty of fresh grated paramesan and garlic bread.
  6. Note: save pasta water if sauce is too tight, add accordingly.
