Ingredients
- 1 - french bread loaf
- 1 cup tahini
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 - lemon, juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 can great northern beans, 15 oz
- 2 tablespoons sumac
- 1 pinch each: black pepper, cumin and cayenne pepper
- 1 stick butter or margarine
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper or paprika
How To Make vartabit

Step 1Cut french bread into 1 inch cubes. Place bread cubes in a 9"x13" baking pan (preferably glass). Bake at 180 degrees bread until golden brown.

Step 2Maanwhile, mix the tahini with crushed garlic, salt, and lemon juice. Add enough water to this paste to bring the consistency of pancake batter. Drain the beans, and rinse well. Stir the beans into the tahini mixture. At this point you can either mash the beans to make a puree or leave them whole for more texture. Set aside.

Step 3Melt butter or margarine until golden brown.Stir in either cayenne or paprika according to taste. Keep warm.

Step 4Place bread cubes in serving dish. Spread bean and tahini mixture over bread. Sprinkle spices evenly, starting with black pepper and ending with sumac. Drizzle melted butter over the prepared dish. Serve immediately.
