Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 lb beef stewing meat, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 large sweet onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sweet paprika
  • 4 - 6 teaspoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 - 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 large bay leaf

How To Make cabbage stew

  • Step 1
Put your cut cabbage into a bowl of boiling water for 10 - 15 minutes to soften. Drain and set aside until ready to use.
  • Step 2
In a large pot, add oil and put on low heat. Add the meat, cover the pot and cook 30 - 35 minutes, until cooked.
  • Step 3
Now add the onion, tomato paste, olive oil, paprika, pepper and chili flakes; stir for 2 or 3 minutes. Next add the cabbage and bay leaf, then pour in just enough water to covers the cabbage. Turn the heat to medium and bring to a boil, season with salt and simmer for 2 hours.
  • Step 4
When ready to serve, throw out the bay leaf. Serve in bowls with lots of fresh buttered or oiled crusty bread.
