When I was growing up MOM made this quite often. She made her own Kraut and homemade sausage, this is one thing the family looked forward too.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb
    pork sausage
  • 1/2 c
    oats, quick cooking
  • 1
    egg slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 16 oz
    sauerkraut snipped
  • 2 tsp
    caraway seeds
  • 3 Tbsp
    chopped onion
  • 4 slice
    bacon
  • 1/4 c
    shredded swiss cheese

How to Make `BAVARIAN KRAUT AND SAUSAGE ROLL

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine sausage, oats, salt, and Worcestershire sauce and blend well. Put on waxed paper and make a 10 by 7 rectangle.
  2. Combine sauerkraut, caraway seeds, and onion. Spread mixture evenly on sausage rectangle. Roll up, jelly roll fashion.
  3. Place bacon slices over top. Place in a 12 by 8 inch baking dish.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hour.
  5. Five minutes before removing from oven sprinkle with cheese over top and return to oven to melt cheese
  6. Serves 4 to 6. NOTE: For a less crusty surface, cover during first hour of baking.
