Inspired by Amanda W. I just didn't have the option of a slow cooker meal. A few tweaks turn this into a delicious dinner in about an hour and my family loved it.

4 large
chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
3 small
chicken thighs, skinless and boneless
2 tsp
garlic minced
2 Tbsp
onion powder
2 Tbsp
garlic powder
1 tsp
crushed red pepper flakes
salt and pepper to taste


1 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 c
apple cider vinegar
1/4 c
7 up soda
2 Tbsp
soy sauce, low sodium
2 tsp
2 tsp
1 bunch
green onions
sesame seeds

How to Make Skillet Sweet Garlic Chicken


  • 1Season breast and thighs with onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper set aside.
  • 2In a mixing bowl combine the brown sugar, vinegar, soda, minced garlic. Stir until the brown sugar is dissolved.
  • 3Heat a skillet with a quarter cup of olive oil and brown breast and thighs well. Remove and set aside in a warm oven.
  • 4Pour sauce into the same skillet, leave the num nums and simmer until it coats the back of your spoon. Add cornstarch and water mixture.
  • 5Once sauce is thickened return chicken pieces and simmer 10 minutes. Cut off the heat, let sit covered 10 more minutes.
  • 6Plate chicken, pour the sauce over all and sprinkle with chopped onion, red pepper and sesame seeds. Serve hot.
