chef's choice sauce for pasta

I was raised in a Italian home and pasta was served every Sunday. I found this recipe on a Contadina can and it's better than mom's. I did tweak it a bit. Please don't tell mom.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef, italian sausage or ground turkey
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups 18-ounce can tomatoe paste (contadina)
  • 1 can 14.5 -ounce can whole peeled tomatoes and juice contadina
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/3 cup red wine or beef broth
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano crushsed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 pound cooked pasta
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper (optional)

How To Make chef's choice sauce for pasta

  • Step 1
    In large saucepan, brown gound beef with onions and garlic; drain.
  • Step 2
    Stir in tomato paste, tomatoes and juice, water wine, oregano, basil, salt and pepper and sugar.
  • Step 3
    Bring to a boil; simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve over hot pasta.
  • Step 4
    VARIATIONS Saute vegetables in olive oil and add to the sauce. It also can be cooked in a crock pot for 4 hours on high. I like it better in the crock pot.
