I first made these for my son 25 years ago as a fun, quick meal when time was tight on Halloween. Now, we enjoy them as an appetizer or slider served on our Halloween buffet. Feel free to use your favorite burger recipe. ("Eyeball" slider pictured is made with 1/2 of a small, fresh mozzarella cheese ball and 1/2 of a stuffed olive.) Mix together ground beef chuck or turkey, onion, salt and pepper. Form into desired sized patties. Using a small paring knife, carve pumpkin faces onto cheese slices. Set aside.
  • Step 2
Brown meat patties and top with cheese faces 1-2 minutes before they are done. Serve on hamburger buns for a meal or slider buns for a festive appetizer along with your favorite toppings and sweet potato fries. Decorate with ketchup "blood" and "stab" with small, plastic appetizer forks and swords that are used to serve olives and fruit in cocktails.
