Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 pound mild sausage
  • 1 can 29 oz. kidney beans with liquid
  • 1 can 29 oz. pinto beans with liquid
  • 1 cup onion, diced (~1 medium onion)
  • 1/4 cup diced celery (1 stalk)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 can 29 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup diced gree chili (2 chilies)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt

How To Make meat and bean chili

  • Step 1
    brown ground beef and sausage in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off the fat. Using a fork, crumble the meat into small pieces.
  • Step 2
    In a large pot, combine the meat plus all the remaining ingredients. Bring to a simmer over low heat. Cook, stirring every 15 minutes or so, for 3 hours, Serves about 12.
