Very easy to make, this delicious coffee liqueur is a great one to have around.

Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons instant coffee (substitute instant espresso)
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar, or to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups cold distilled water
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 750 milliliters (26 oz.) 94% alcohol

How To Make homemade tia maria

  • Step 1
    In a measuring cup, add instant coffee and boiling water; stir until granules are dissolved and set aside.
  • Step 2
    In a saucepan over medium heat, add sugar and cold water; stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and let it sit for 15 minutes or until it gets to room temperature.
  • Step 3
    Add vanilla, coffee and alcohol to sugar mixture; stir very well and transfer to a liqueur decanter. Let it rest for 3 to 4 weeks before serving. Yields 6 cups
