1Combine water, 2 Tbsp. sugar and cornstarch in saucepan. Cook over low heat until clear, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
2Beat egg whites, cream of tarter and salt in large mixing bowl until mixture is foamy. Add vanilla and gradually add 6 Tbsp. sugar; beating constantly until meringue forms soft peaks. Gradually add cornstarch mixture, beating until stiff. Spread over top of pie and seal to crust. Brown in oven.
