better homes & garden's chocolate chess pie
This is one of the DESSERT ITEMS on the menu for my husband's SPECIAL APPRECIATION DINNER on Sunday. It is very tasty, and the nuts gives it a special crunch. The recipe is from my BETTER HOMES & GARDENS CHRISTmas COOKING FROM THE HEART cookbooks. The addition of cool whip or whipped topping with a sprinkle of mini chocolate sprinkles adds just the right amount of added creaminess. This pie is simple & easy. If you have never tried chess pie, then this is the one to try, you will be hooked on the very first bite. Chocolate lovers take note, you cant loose with this one. Hubby loved it

How To Make better homes & garden's chocolate chess pie
-
Step 1PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES F. Shape pie crust into pie plate and set aside till needed.
-
Step 2To make the filling: Add sugar, cocoa powder, corn meal, flour & salt.
-
Step 3Stir to blend together.
-
Step 4In a medium bowl whisk the eggs with the milk, butter & vanilla. Then stir mixture into sugar mixture until smooth. Add nuts. Then pour into crust.
-
Step 5Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour until filling is set and the crust is a golden brown. You can reduce temperature to 325 degrees F. if the crust browns too fast, & cover edge of crust with aluminum foil. Cool pie on wire rack. Filling will fall slightly after baking that's normal.
-
Step 6Cover pie and chill in fridge for at least 2 hours or more. Slice and top with whipped cream or whipped topping if desired. Enjoy.
