This is a great old-fashioned, heirloom recipe for a "not too sweet" frosting. Both my mother and grandmother used this.

Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 5 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
How To Make old fashioned cooked frosting

Step 1Whisk together the flour and milk in a small saucepan.

Step 2Stirring constantly over med-low heat, cook to a thick paste. Let cool completely.

Step 3Cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

Step 4Beat in the vanilla.

Step 5Beat in the cooled milk paste until it is the consistency of whipped cream.
