- 2 - eggs, beaten
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- - oil, for deep-frying
How To Make ma mere's date doughnuts

Step 1Heat oil in deep-fat fryer to 375 F.

Step 2In a bowl, combine beaten eggs, sugar and melted butter; beat well.

Step 3In another bowl, combine flour with baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Fold in dates.

Step 4Mix lemon extract with milk. Add dry ingredients to egg mixture alternately with milk.

Step 5Drop batter by tablespoonfuls, 2 or 3 at a time, into hot oil and fry until crisp and brown, about 3 minutes frying time, turning once. Drain on paper towels.
