This dessert screams summertime! The strawberries are sweet and the blueberries are tart - a perfect pairing. The cake itself is extremely moist and not overly sweet. Serve warm with some vanilla ice cream and you have an easy and delicious dessert.

Ingredients

1/2 c
butter or margarine, room temperature
1 c
sugar

egg
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 1/2 c
all-purpose flour
1 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
salt
1/2 c
milk
1 c
blueberries
1 c
strawberries, sliced
1/2 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 tsp
nutmeg
sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (optional)

Step-By-Step

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
3In a small bowl, cream 1/4 cup of the butter and 1/2 cup of the sugar. Blend in egg and vanilla.
4In a small mixing bowl, stir together 1 cup of the flour, baking powder, and salt.
5Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk; Stir until blended.
6Pour batter into prepared pan.
7Arrange fruit over batter.
8In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar, remaining flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in remaining 1/4 cup of butter until mixture is crumbly.
9Sprinkle crumb mixture over fruit.
10Bake for 35 minutes.
11Serve with sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
