We have five boys and another baby on the way. I enjoy making the baby's food, and just do not want to buy the prepackaged yuck. My babies loved it so much, you have to make sure not to feed them too quickly so they won't get a brain freeze.

The Crew and I love the flavor of this sweet, fruity treat. We even recruited some mini Crew members for the taste test, Caroline (8 months) and Susannah Grace (19 months)! It was a winner all the way around.

Ingredients For baby food (8mos+) strawberry oatmeal "ice cream"

  • 2 c
    spring water
  • 1/2 c
    irish oatmeal or scottish porridge (not quick cook)
  • 1 dash
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    dark brown sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 c
    vanilla yogurt, whole milk (stonyfield yobaby) optional
  • 1 pkg
    frozen strawberries (any frozen fruit)

How To Make baby food (8mos+) strawberry oatmeal "ice cream"

    In a saucepan (preferably cast iron), mix water, oats, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Cook on medium heat until oats are soft.

    Place in a glass bowl in refrigerator until cool. Should also almost become gummy.

    Place chilled oatmeal, yogurt, and frozen strawberries in blender. Serve in bowl. Place leftover in freezer.
